The word "shifty" is often regarded in a negative way by us foreigners to English language. We do lack a little of the understanding for possible variations contained within some words. I dictionary would not help here

In the North of Ireland we sometimes have different definations of English words...eg, I would say "I'm going for a poke". To most people that is something sexual. In most of the North of Ireland the words ice-cream cone is subtistuted for 'going for a poke' . We don't go for walks. We go for danders. All Irish generally ask 'what's/how's the craic?'. Say that in ear shout of a cop.
